MYB Orthologs

Orthologs of MYB transcription factors can provide detailed insights into intron function when compared across of two genera in the Phrymaceae family. Our focus is on two species of Erythranthe: E. guttatus and E. laciniata. We will compare their R2R3MYB sequences with those of Diplacus puniceus. In particular, we are examining the presence of TATA strings within their MYB introns.
Our analysis reveals considerable similarities among the species. Specifically, we have identified three TATA strings labeled as a, b, and c. At least one of these strings may significantly influence the transcription process in each plant species when long. In Diplacus puniceus, we find TATA string a; in Erythranthe laciniata, we see string b; and in Erythranthe guttatus, string c is present.
This specific R2R3MYB transcription factor may influence the dark red coloration in spotted or whole flower petals.
